There are several different types of charts and other data visualizations that are useful for presenting model results.

  • Time series
  • Column, bar
  • Heat map
  • X-Y scatter plot
  • Histogram
  • Sankey Diagram
  • 3D building images with color coded spatial display of loads, daylight, energy intensity

When using charts in your presentation, consider the following guidance.

  • Label all axes
  • Include units
  • Use readable font sizes
  • Add data labels if appropriate
  • Use color, arrows or other means to highlight best choices, notable results
  • Use continuous lines for a data series only if it is a continuous quantity, such as energy consumption being plotted as a function of window area.
  • Use columns or bars for data series that represent discrete cases, such as design alternatives A, B and C.
  • Format numbers on axis labels to avoid unneeded digits. E.g. 15 rather than 15.00
