Identify potential incentives
Monetary incentives may be available for projects that use energy modeling in the project design process. These may be incentives designed to offset the fees associated with the energy modeling activities, or may be larger incentives calculated based on total savings demonstrated by the energy modeling.
Incentives may be available from the local utilities, local or state government, or the federal government. To identify potential incentives, a good place to start is the Database of State Incentives for Renewables & Efficiency (DSIRE) website. At this site, you can search for available incentives by entering the project's zip code. The incentives listed on this site are not limited to energy modeling related programs, so you may need to read through a list of options to determine if there is a suitable incentive available. Filters can be applied to the searches, but unfortunately there is not a filter specifically for whole-building performance incentives.
